Model United Nations, commonly known as MUN, is an academic simulation where students
take on the role of diplomats representing different countries. Through structured debate and
discussion, participants explore global issues and learn how international decision-making
works in a formal and guided environment.
MUN of the Ceylon Diplomats, or MUNCD, is a youth-led Model United Nations conference
created to provide such a platform in Colombo. Organised by the Rotaract Club of Colombo Fort
and APIIT with the support of the Zahira College Model United Nations Club, the conference
brings together school and university students interested in diplomacy and global affairs.
At MUNCD, delegates participate in committee sessions that reflect real diplomatic forums.
They research assigned topics, engage in moderated discussions, and work with others to
understand different perspectives and policy approaches. The focus remains on respectful
dialogue, critical thinking, and informed debate.
By combining academic structure with professional conduct, MUNCD aims to help young people
develop a clearer understanding of diplomacy and international cooperation. The conference
serves as a space where global issues can be discussed thoughtfully, encouraging awareness
and responsibility among future leaders.
As international events continue to shape societies worldwide, MUN of the Ceylon Diplomats
offers a structured environment for youth to engage with global challenges through dialogue
and simulation.
